On December 7, Catherine J. Bruno, FACHE, EMHS chief information officer (CIO), was awarded the Chief Information Officer of the Year Award from the New England Chapter of the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

EMHS is pleased to congratulate Inland Hospital in Waterville and Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for their inclusion in the annual listing of the nation’s top hospitals (rural hospital category) published by the Washington, DC, based Leapfrog Group. Inland and Sebasticook were selected from a field of 220 rural hospitals. The full results are posted on Leapfrog’s website (leapfroggroup.org).

On September 11, David McDermott, MD, MPH, president of the Maine Medical Association (MMA) presented Erik Steele, DO with the President’s Award for Distinguished Service.

Charlie J. Hatfield II, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (BHMH), and M. Michelle Hood, FACHE, president and CEO of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS) have announced that Gregory E. Roraff, FACHE, of Marlette, Michigan has been selected as the new president and chief executive officer of BHMH. Roraff has served as CEO of Marlette Regional Hospital since July 2008.

Forty-two area freshmen interested in healthcare careers were able to learn about their options in a fun way, as they attended Survivor Camp: Adventures in Healthcare on the campus of Eastern Maine Community College.
